Hi all,

the original size of each VIRCAM@VISTA fits is 2048x2048 px. See http://www.eso.org/sci/facilities/paran ... rcam/inst/
But these became 8x2048 px after splitting.

you have to uncompress them first, using fpack/funpack, available here:

http://heasarc.nasa.gov/fitsio/fpack/

i can imagine. you'll encounter a whole bunch of new difficulties with real near-IR data.
